The International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) has announced the Excellence and Merit winners of the 2017 Gold Quill Awards program. The program recognises business communication excellence globally, and is acknowledged as one of the most prestigious awards programs in the industry.

opr Employee Experience and Canon Australia received an Excellence Award for internal communications. opr Melbourne and NAB were awarded TWO Excellence Awards in communications and media relations categories. Excellence Awards are the top accolades possible for communication professionals. Only 74 were given across all countries and categories.

opr Employee Experience and Canon Australia were recognised for the success of ‘a-FUSION’. ‘a-FUSION’ was a project that involved introducing a new IT system that transformed the way Canon bills, analyses data, processes orders and handles service requests. The change directly impacted 80% of their workforce, as well as their outsourcing partners.

What made this project a success was a thorough analysis of Canon’s internal stakeholders, an approach that cut out the tech-speak and looked at the change through a people – not an IT – lens, and a creative approach that helped people understand what they needed to do to get skilled up and equipped.

The judges’ feedback praised Canon and Impact’s solution, noting a-FUSION demonstrates, ‘collaboration with key stakeholders and aligns with the business need and audience analysis.’

They also stated the project was, ‘clearly a great team effort between agency and client. The aims were clear, and the articulation of the approach meeting the needs was thorough, thoughtful and clever. Multiple outcomes were measured with the results exceeding objectives.’

opr Melbourne and NAB Australia built a campaign called ‘Rethink Success’. It was based off the insight that every day, a NAB banker has a conversation with a customer about what success looks like to them. These quiet but important conversations are a small insight for that banker into the goals of Australians and their families. The campaign revealed Aussies define success by happiness, health and good-relationships, over monetary factors such as a well-paid job or expensive car. The campaign was brought to life through whitepapers, infographics, sustained media coverage, case studies, and tailored media stories. Over the period of six months, ‘Rethink Success’ achieved over 630 pieces of media coverage – reaching an audience of over 13,932,788 million.

In feedback on the submission, the judges noted that the work, ‘demonstrated exceptional understanding of the media landscape and strategic approach to achieving coverage’. They congratulated opr Melbourne and NAB on ‘impressive and industry leading work’.

The Gold Quill Awards will be presented at the Excellence Gala, to be held on Tuesday, 13 June, as part of the IABC’s World Conference in Washington, D.C.
